MyWordBook 2 is an interactive vocabulary notebook app for language learners from The British Council. The app (download for free here) lets you learn, practise and review words using sets of flashcards. Each flashcard contains pictures, sounds, example sentences, translations and notes. All the word data comes from Cambridge University Press' learner dictionaries.
The app comes with a random selection of around 25 words at intermediate level, and if you register (free), you'll be able to access a similar number of words at Elementary and Advanced levels. Additional thematic word packs can be purchased for a couple of euros each from within the app, but you also have the possibility to create your own flashcards using images, sound and notes for free.
WHAT I THINK
Using flashcards is a great way to improve vocabulary skills. There are dozens of flashcard apps available for the iPad, but MyWordBook has the advantage of being specifically designed for learning languages. If only there was an option to define categories for the words you create yourself, this would be a five-star app. Definitely worth downloading, all the same.
TIP
Make sure you read the "Help" notes, otherwise you might not become aware of some of the features of this excellent app. The "Learner Tips" provide some useful vocabulary learning advice.
